Places & Spaces I’ve Been

I’m really a country boy at heart. My high school years at Laurinburg Prep in Laurinburg, North Carolina and rural living in West Africa gave me an appreciation for mother nature and her friends. Too often in the hectic pace of our city lives, running to catch a dollar or calling to cut a deal, we forget the importance of nature in the balance of our lives. The other day, in New York City, I spotted a hawk sitting atop an index finger of a bronze statue in Union Square Park. I pointed this out to two women with a young child in a baby carriage. They stood there, momentarily frozen to the concrete, watching in awe. Sharing the planet with mother nature’s friends is so cool.
